South Carolina Strong for Home Sales

Not many locals with at least one eye working will be surprised, but a national real estate information company says that South Carolina is high on the national list of the number of new homes sold.

In its report, CoreLogic notes that new home sales are stronger in markets where homes are cheaper. That puts the South on top of the regional listing and South Carolina as high as third highest among the southern states.

While the company posted no overall score either for the regions or states, it’s obvious by looking at the numbers that the South is the strong region for new home sales, followed by the Midwest.

CoreLogic ranked Delaware, which in December had 22 percent of homes being sold as new construction, top of the South, although there aren’t many born and bred southerners who would think of it as the South. Texas, which ended up the year with 16 percent of sales being new homes, was second and South Carolina came in just behind at 15 percent.
